There are so many ways to change the life of an animal—and sometimes, all it takes is a few hours of your time.

Our volunteers are an important part of everything we do. They help us provide animals with extra love, enrichment, exercise, and socialization. They help us serve pet owners in our community, support adoption events, assist with lifesaving programs, and help our animals get one step closer to finding the families they’ve been waiting for.

Whether you love spending time with dogs, prefer the company of cats, enjoy helping at community events, or simply want to give back, there is a place for you on our volunteer team!

Volunteer Opportunities

There are many ways to get involved, including:

• Offsite Adoption Events – Help our adoptable animals meet potential families at events throughout the community.
• Dog Walking & Enrichment – Give shelter dogs much-needed exercise, attention, playtime, and enrichment.
• Cat Socialization & Enrichment – Spend time with our shelter cats and kittens, providing play, enrichment, affection, and socialization.
• Doggy Day Outs – Take an adoptable dog out of the shelter for a few hours of fun, exploration, and a much-deserved break.
• K9 Turbo Shelter Breaks – Help give shelter dogs an opportunity to get away for enrichment, exercise, and new experiences.
• PetSmart Utica & Petco Eastpointe – Assist with morning cleaning and care at our offsite cat adoption locations.
• Food Bank Opportunities – Assist with food distribution and other efforts that help keep pets and their families together.
• Vaccine Clinics – Help our team provide important preventative care to pets in our community.
• Fundraising & Special Events – Join us at events that raise awareness and critical funds to support the animals and programs in our care.

Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.
