Changes at MACS
MACS has been on an improved journey to save lives. Since 2018, we have implemented many changes to help save more lives. 2024 was an amazing year and we keep getting better every day.
- In 2024 we sent our Executive Director and Shelter Manager to the “Best Friends National Conference” to learn new ways to save animals.
- MACS sent adoption counselors to Gateway Pet Guardians in Illinois to learn new ways to do adoptions.
- Transferred 952 animals to other shelters around Michigan to give them an opportunity for a good home.
- Adopted out 538 animals.
- Spayed and neutered over 2700 animals.
- Microchipped 848 animals.
- Helped over 800 local families feed their animals.
- Handed out over 50 crates to help owners to keep their dogs inside.
- Repainted our building.
- Joined Project Green Light as sponsored by the City of Detroit Police Department to help keep our employees and visitors safe.
- Our Shelter Director was featured in the Best Friends Magazine in the August 2024 addition. The article details our amazing accomplishment of saving of 1000 more cats’ lives!
MACS will continue to move forward with increased adoptions, fosters and transfer partners. MACS will continue to help the citizens of Detroit and local surrounding communities to comply with their local animal ordinances as well as donate supplies and educational materials to those that request them. MACS clinic will continue to offer low cost/no cost spay/neuter options and to aid with other medical costs to help owners keep their pets at home rather than surrender them for adoption.
